Nissan Electric Vehicle 101: The Complete Guide to Getting Familiar With Nissan Electric Vehicle

Nissan saw the biggest rise in the market as it came from Japan and started its operations all over the world. It started its operations well before the name Nissan was attached to the company.

Nissan has taken the world by storm and now they have entered the electric vehicle market and there is no looking back for them. So let’s see some of the models that Nissan has come up with and if you should buy them or not.

Let’s get started!

What Are Nissan Electric Vehicles?

Nissan was founded in 1933 in Yokohama, Japan. But this wasn’t the first time the company was operating under a different name. It started its operations in 1911 with the name of the company as Kaishinsha Motor Car Works and produced its first car in 1914 called DAT.

As different companies acquired them, the names changed throughout. But by 1933 before its acquisition by Nissan Group, it was under the name of Jidosha-Seizo Co., Ltd.

Nissan was pretty popular all over Japan and helped a lot during the World Wars. it produced endless trucks as the soldiers’ convoy. It built airplanes, engines, and trucks that helped the Army.

The company rose to heights after its connection with the US in 1935 and produced thousands of cars. After its success in both Japan and the US, finally, in 1991, they thought of trying alternative fuel technology.

They introduced the future electric vehicle car concept which the Environmental Protection Agency appreciated. Nissan’s journey in electric vehicles started with the Hyper Mini in 2000 which was a 2 seater car.

It was all about highs after this as they started manufacturing different models of electric vehicles. They even received multiple awards for this new concept as they had started moving towards the zero-emissions goal way before many other automobiles companies even ventured into this market.

Best Nissan Electric Vehicles Model

1. Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf has always been Nissan’s best-selling product. Ever since its launch in 2010, it has undergone exemplary transformations. The major transformation has been in the charging units. With just 2370 units in 2011, today there are 213,367 units only in Europe. This is way more than what Ford has all over North America.

This shows the success that the company has acquired through Nissan leaf and it also highlights customers’ support and reliance on this vehicle.

Additionally, it offers a range of 226 miles and a 63 kWh battery. This means that with a single charge, you can cover up 226 miles, so you will never have to worry about charging the battery time and again. Not many electric vehicles offer such a great mile range.

There is only one issue that is all-electric vehicles. The problem with home charging is that companies offer slow chargers for homes, so it takes about 8-12 hours to charge a car. Whereas the public charging points are way better but they are expensive. They take 40-60 minutes to charge the car.

So you have to choose if you want to let it recharge overnight or spend extra money on the public ports.

Another amazing feature is its connection with the smartphone and your smartwatch. You can connect the phone to the car and unlock it from any location or change its function through the smartphone app.

If you are worried that the car will not have enough cargo space then you are wrong. The battery is placed underneath the car which gives plenty of space to hold your suitcases.

This car will take care of you on the streets with its amazing brake technology. It can detect the distance between you and the pedestrian side. It will automatically inform you that you need to slow down or use the brake.

Moreover, it also detects anything behind you that you are not able to see. And if you drift off to another lane and are constantly drifting, then the car takes control to save you from any mishap.

Another great feature of Nissan Leaf is the e-pedal that reduces the need to use the brake. You only need to use the accelerator to accelerate, decelerate, and even bring the car to a stop.

When you push down hard, it will accelerate quickly, once you lift your feet slowly, it’ll start to decelerate, and when you do it suddenly, it will stop.

It comes in 9 colors with 3 different ranges. It ranges from $27,000 to $33,000. But the government also provides tax reductions on electric vehicles because eventually, you are doing good for society.

By not buying a gasoline vehicle and going for an expensive electric vehicle, the government assists you by reducing the tax on it. This completely depends upon the area you are residing in, so you should always check the rules and regulations first.

3. Nissan Ariya

Nissan Ariya is yet to hit the market but customers are already gearing up to buy this new car. Stylish, unique, and available in different ranges and colors, this is the one electric car that you should look out for in Fall 2022.

The registrations for this car have already begun and the company is pretty satisfied with the response so far.

The company is providing tempting offers to the early customers as they can get two years of Evgo membership for free and $500 in charging credits. This will help to save a lot of money if you go for public charging.

With the new e-4orce technology, the ride experience becomes seamless and smooth. You can easily ride this car in any weather and situation. Icy, wet, or snowy roads? Don’t worry as this car will not slip on the road.

With the enhanced e-4orce powertrain and braking, the wheels have a great grip that will help the car to power on.

Moreover, you can connect the car with your phone and plan when you want to charge the battery. You can select the time frame when electricity is the cheapest and connect the car at that time. The electricity charges vary according to the season and even time of the day.

If you are going for a long journey then you can also plan out through the charging map where you can charge your vehicle.

Just like the Nissan Leaf, this car too helps you with driver assistance. With the ProPilot Assist 2.0, lane change assistance becomes easy as the car maneuvers through the best exit route. If you are stuck behind a slow vehicle, then it will also help you in overtaking.

It can monitor the traffic and inform your prior when the exit is approaching. You can also have a hands-free experience in free lanes. You can take your hands off the wheel and feet off the pedal and the car will drive itself. This is an experience that electric car owners rave about.

Do you find difficulty in parallel parking and need help to do that? The ProPilot Assist 2.0 will help you in that too. In short, you can completely rely on this car and its features to do the work for you.

Nissan Ariya comes in 4 varieties namely Nissan Ariya Venture+, Nissan Ariya Evolve+, Nissan Ariya Premiere, and Nissan Ariya Platinum+. They range between $45,000 to $59,000. With tax rebates, you can get it at a low price as well but you’ll have to check it with the local government.

3. Nissan E-NV200

Finally, we have moved from cars and come to a van that is equally impactful and powerful. From small to large business owners, and fleet buyers, this is the perfect electric van for you. In the pandemic, many people started their businesses and became entrepreneurs.

The baking business boomed during the period. Hence, this e-NV200 becomes very handy in such situations. For instance, if you want to deliver the cake to a destination, this van will help you.

It can even double to help as packers and movers as it has enough space to transport your stuff. But you can’t place your furniture inside the biggest model as well because it does not have that much space.

But it will surely help to deliver the parcels, equipment, and even run a business in this van. The opportunities are endless. This van will help your business as there are no additional costs of filling up the gasoline or checking up on engine, oil, tank, or tailpipe issues.

Nissan offers three models in the e-NV200 which are Visia, Acenta, and Tekna. They range from $23,000 to $26,000. Additionally, you also get tax rebates on these. This will further help you in buying since it will become more affordable.

We know it is an investment but electric vehicles are here to stay. They have lower maintenance and operations costs, which is a huge advantage. A small investment like this goes a long way.

Moreover, in comparison to Ford, Nissan offers inexpensive vans. The cost is almost half and that’s why this makes it the most budget-friendly option. Additionally, it has a maximum payload of 705 kg which makes it the best part of the van.

The Nissan e-NV200 also comes in another model called the Nissan e-NV200 Combi which is perfect for big families. It is a 7 seater van but it does not have much cargo space. So, while going on a family trip, you’ll have to make the arrangements and adjustments for the suitcases.

It is completely electric with a 40 kWh battery and offers 124 to 187 miles of range. As far as charging is concerned, on a public charging port, the vehicle can charge in 40-60 minutes. But if you want to charge it at home, there is a big problem.

If the battery dies down completely, then it will take an entire day to recharge it. So it’s always preferable that you charge the vehicle on a daily basis. This issue can sometimes cost your business too. This issue is common with both vans.

The Nissan e-NV200 Combi also comes in 3 models namely Visia, Acenta, and Evalia. The former one even offers you an option to make the car 5 or 7 seaters. This choice opens up avenues as you can now go on long journeys without worrying about the cargo.

The Combi model ranges from $27,000 to $32,000.

Otherwise, both the vans have pretty good features and have separate uses. So you’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of each van to know which is a better investment for you.

Does Nissan Have a Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle?

Nissan does not have a plug-in hybrid feature as of now but it does have hybrid cars. The main difference between a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid is based on its internal combustion engine.

In a hybrid car, you can switch between the electric battery-operated operation or the internal combustion engine. They can either work simultaneously or independently.

However, in a plug-in hybrid, the gasoline feature only works as a backup. You can’t use it till the time the battery dies down. For instance, if you have not charged the car’s battery then it will start working on the gasoline.

Since Nissan and Mitsubishi have an alliance and 1 in 9 cars that are manufactured are from their alliance, we can consider Mitsubishi’s Outlander as an option.

The 2021 Mitsubishi’s Outlander offers a Level 3 charging fast charging which is the fastest among all. It can recharge an EV at a rate of 3 to 20 miles of range. It has amazing cargo space as well. But the only problem is that plug-in hybrids are not environmentally friendly to a good extent.

Moreover, they cost more than the gasoline vehicle or an electric vehicle because the user has to pay for both things.

However, you can go for Nissan’s hybrid cars which are listed below:

  1. 2019 Nissan Rogue
  2. 2016 Nissan Murano
  3. 2011 Nissan Pathfinder

The 2019 version of the Nissan Rogue is the latest and offers much better performance as compared to its 2017 and 2018 versions. This one stands out among the other hybrids due to its affordability, more cargo space, excellent interior, and 35 mpg powertrain in highway driving.

What Is Nissan’s “Ambition 2030”?

This is Nissan’s rather innovative and ambitious project that they hope to achieve by the end of 2030. The company announced this project at the end of November 2021.

They are investing $17 billion to come up with 15 fully electric vehicles that include a sports car, an adventure truck, and a mobile living room with convertible seats. This includes four concepts, Chill-Out, Hang-Out, Max-Out, and Surf-Out.

They aim to make 23 vehicles which are a mix of plug-in hybrid, hybrid, and all-electric vehicles. They will also invest the money in battery innovations and operations.

This plan was in response to eliminating carbon dioxide emissions. To make the planet and environment safer and cleaner is their utmost priority with this plan.

Through Nissan Ambition 2030, they hope to reduce the charging time to one-third and conduct research on cobalt-free technology that will bring down the cost of the vehicles by 65%.

Does Nissan Have an Electric Truck?

No, Nissan does not have an electric truck as of now but they have revealed the plan to make one by 2030. In the Ambition 2030 project, they have a concept truck by the name of Nissan Surf-Out. It would have 2 seats and its concept till now seems extremely attractive.

If they launch the electric truck then their target audience will increase. It will also positively impact the environment.

What Is Nissan Leaf’s Battery Warranty?

Nissan Leaf has three plans for the battery and they are 36 months/36,000 miles, 60 months/60,000, and 96 months/96,000 miles whichever occurs first.

Final Thoughts

It’s amazing how far technology has reached that our cars can pave the way for themselves without needing human help. Electric vehicles or EVs form a big part of being environmentally conscious.

Nissan is doing its part in supporting the vision by manufacturing all-electric vehicles. With its new project, the vision is only strengthening and there is a hope to achieve the zero-emission target.
